The method involves receiving information for operating a machine (5) in a remote diagnosis center (8), and outputting instructions from the center to the machine for operating the machine. The exchange of information and/or the instructions is carried out electronically over a long distance by using an instant-messaging-system. A bot program runs in the center, and a bot (10) receiving information from a control station computer (7) and/or a control unit of the machine is participated in an instant-massaging-conference. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a machine e.g. packaging machine, printing machine and extrusion machine, comprising interfaces (2) a system for remote diagnosis and maintenance of a machine.
