A method for preparing polyethylene terephthalate is provided to realize an improved solid phase polymerization rate, thereby increasing the productivity and equipment efficiency. A method for preparing polyethylene terephthalate comprises the steps of: carrying out melt polymerization of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and diol to obtain polyethylene terephthalate having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-0.6 dl/g; forming the polyethylene terephthalate into pellets in ejection cooling water heated to 40-70 deg.C and crystallizing the pellets at 150-200 deg.C; and carrying out solid phase polymerization of the crystallized polyethylene terephthalate pellets by using an inert gas at 200-230 deg.C. |
