The method involves estimating the load of a canister (3) in accordance with a model dependant on internal and/or external physical parameters of a hybrid car, where the physical parameters, during the operation of the car, are measured by sensors and stored in a non-volatile memory in the car. The sensors are maintained in standby state at the time of stopping of a thermal engine (7) of the car, so as to ensure the continuity of measurements and storage of physical parameters during the stopping of the thermal engine. The parameters are external pressure, external temperature, pressure in a petrol tank, and the temperature in the petrol tank. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining the need for purging of the canister (2) a device for determining the need for purging of the canister (3) a hybrid vehicle.
