This invention provides a curable composition for use, for example, in liquid crystal displays, that can form a cured product which can be largely deformed upon exposure to external pressure (that is, uneven applied force in the preparation of a substrate can be absorbed) and causes no significant lowering in recovery even under high pressure (that is, the dependency of recovery upon pressure is small). The curable composition can form a cured product satisfying the following index formula in a load-unload test with a microhardness tester: |H<SUB>1</SUB> - H<SUB>2</SUB>|/|P<SUB>1</SUB> - P<SUB>2</SUB>| = 0.35 and |R<SUB>1</SUB> - R<SUB>2</SUB>|/|P<SUB>1 </SUB>- P<SUB>2</SUB>| = 15 wherein H<SUB>1</SUB> and H<SUB>2</SUB> represent total degree of deformation of spacers respectively having upper sectional areas of 40 ± 5 µm<SUP>2</SUP> and 150 ± 5 µm<SUP>2</SUP>, µm; P<SUB>1</SUB> and P<SUB>2</SUB> represent pressures applied to the spacers respectively having upper sectional areas of 40 ± 5 µm<SUP>2</SUP> and 150 ± 5 µm<SUP>2</SUP>, mN/µm<SUP>2</SUP>; and R<SUB>1</SUB> and R<SUB>2</SUB> represent elastic recovery of the spacers respectively having upper sectional areas of 40 ± 5 µm<SUP>2</SUP> and 150 ± 5 µm<SUP>2</SUP>, %. |
