RHEOMETER AND RHEOMETRIC METHOD

Apparatus responsive to constitutive parameters of the rheological properties of complex fluids comprising: a flow path for the fluid that comprises a shear feature that results in multiple shear patterns between adjacent elements of the flow stream of the fluid as it transitions the shear feature; means to sense flow parameters of the flow stream along the flow path, wherein said flow parameters are selected to be sensitive to changes in rheological parameters of complex fluids; wherein said flow stream is pulsed, whereby time-dependent transient effects as a result of the complex rheological properties of the fluid affect the flow parameters sensed over and after the period of the pulse and are detected by the apparatus. The apparatus also determines constitutive parameters of the rheological properties of complex fluids by including computational means to calculate on the basis of said sensed flow parameters by inverse interpolation according to appropriate models of said rheological properties.
