In order to accurately detect the load acting on a steering brake and to effectively protect the steering brake, this crawler-type work vehicle is provided with: left and right steering clutches (12L, 12R); left and right steering brakes (13L, 13R); a rotation speed detection means; a brake oil pressure acquisition means; and a brake protection means. The rotation speed detection means detects the output rotation speed of each steering brake. The brake oil pressure acquisition means acquires the brake oil pressure provided to each steering brake. The brake protection means executes a process for protecting the steering brake(s) by: calculating the heat generation rate of the steering brake(s) by referencing the output rotation speed and the brake oil pressure; and reducing engine output if the calculated heat generation rate is greater than or equal to a first threshold set in advance.
