PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new antiseptic, particularly, an antiseptic exhibiting an excellent antiseptic effect when used for an aqueous composition such as an ophthalmic agent, and to provide an aqueous composition imparted with an excellent antiseptic effect.SOLUTION: An antiseptic comprises a combination of (A) at least one kind of compound selected from diphenhydramine or its salts and (B) boric acid and/or a boric acid salt.
