PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic resin emulsion useful as a water-based coating agent for obtaining a coating layer having a high refractive index and transparency.SOLUTION: A synthetic resin emulsion is prepared by dispersing and stabilizing a synthetic resin obtained by polymerizing a monomer component [I] containing an aromatic ring-containing unsaturated monomer (x) by 50 wt.% or more, in a phosphoric acid surfactant (y). The phosphoric acid surfactant (y) comprises a phosphoric surfactant (y1) having two or more benzene rings.
