GENE ENCODING ENZYME INVOLVED IN MEVALONIC ACID PATHWAY OF EUCOMMIA ULMOIDES OLIVER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene involved in biosynthesis of isoprenoid compounds in Eucommia ulmoides Oliver.SOLUTION: There is provided a gene involved in synthesis of isopentenyl diphosphate from mevalonic acid in Eucommia ulmoides Oliver. The gene encodes HMG-CoA synthase. The synthesis of isopentenyl diphosphate is carried out through a mevalonic acid pathway which is an initial synthetic pathway in the biosynthesis of isoprenoid compounds. In the mevalonic acid pathway, following enzymes are involved: (1) acetyl-CoA C-acetyltransferase; (2) 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase; (3) HMG-CoA reductase; (4) mevalonate kinase; (5) phosphomevalonate kinase; and (6) mevalonate pyrophosphate decarboxylase.
