The unit has milling machines arranged on both sides of a workpiece (6) opposite to each other. A machine stand (2) is movable on a machine bed (3). A spindle head (4) extends in a direction towards the workpiece. A milling head is attached at an interface of the spindle head. A working bridge (11) is formed at an area of the milling head and rigidly and detachably connected with the interface on both sides. The working bridge includes a vertical extension containing a working spindle with a processing tool or the milling head in a direction on the workpiece.
