PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable communication to be performed by a communication protocol conforming to usage conditions, thereby helping save power consumption.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, a communication device is connected to a communication network and can have a plurality of communication ports differing in communication signal transmission rate from each other selectively connected to the communication network. The communication device comprises a processing unit and a control unit. The processing unit accepts as its input a communication signal propagating in one of the communication ports or the communication network and executes communication processing on it by a first program corresponding to the communication protocol of the connected communication port. The control unit changes on the basis of a predetermined condition the first program which is set in the processing unit to a second program differing in communication protocol from the first program.
