PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-up display device capable of avoiding as much as possible breakage of a liquid crystal display device by intrusion of external light.SOLUTION: A HUD (head-up display) device 1 includes: a liquid crystal display device 10 having a liquid crystal panel 11 and carrying out transmissive display by use of the light from a backlight 12; control means for driving and controlling the liquid crystal display device 10; and an optical system 20 that reflects display light L exiting from the liquid crystal display device 10 to reach a windshield 3. A plane mirror 21 constituting the optical system 20 transmits IR rays in the incident light backward and reflects visible light. The HUD device 1 includes an IR sensor located backside the plane mirror 21. When an intensity detected by the IR sensor exceeds a predetermined threshold, the control means decreases the luminance of light of the backlight 12 or turns off the backlight 12. |
