PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately detecting a thickness of a sheet even if a conveyance interval of sheets is narrow.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a driving roller 47a that conveys a sheet by being rotated and driven; a driven roller 47c that is set to be pressed into the driving roller 47a and sandwiches the sheet between the driving roller 47a; a variation detection sensor 61 that detects a variation of the driven roller 47c caused by sandwiching the sheet; a sheet thickness detection part 601 that detects a sheet thickness based on detection data from the variation detection sensor 61; a sheet existence detection part 602 that detects existence of the sheet between the driving roller 47a and the driven roller 47c; and a driving control part 603 that performs rotation driving control of the driving roller 47a based on the detection data of the sheet existence detection part 602.
