A weighted medicine ball 1 for exercise comprises a substantially spherical body containing a weighted element. A pair of voids 4 extend through the body at diametrically opposed sides of the body, with part of the body being located diametrically outwardly of each void and bridging the void to define a handle. Each void defines an opening either side of the respective handle that extends into and through the body beneath the handle. Each void is configured to enable a user to fully extend their hand into the void. Furthermore the body section includes a substantially planar surface 14 on the opposed diametrically inwards side of each void relative to the handle. The planar surfaces are arranged parallel to each other and are configured to enable a user grip the ball by placing their hands into the voids and applying an inwardly directed force against the planar surfaces using their hands. Preferably the ball includes an outer skin formed of a resilient material and the maximum distance between the inner surface of the handle and the planar surface is at least 45mm to enable a users hand to be fully received in the void. |
