The dielectric barrier discharge lamp of the present invention is a discharge lamp to radiate vacuum ultraviolet rays, and suppresses the decrease of ultraviolet radiation quantity and prevents damage to a discharge tube. The discharge lamp (10) is equipped with the following parts: a discharge tube (1) composed of top/bottom wall plates (1a), left/right sidewall plates (1b), and front/rear sidewall plates (1c); a discharging gas for excimer radiation, which is sealed in the discharge tube (1); and an electrode (2, 3) which is installed on at least one of the top/bottom wall plates at the exterior of the discharge tube. The left/right sidewall plates are curved to bulge out from the discharge tube when viewed from a cross section parallel to the front/rear sidewall plates, and a light-shielding layer (4), which blocks ultraviolet rays, is formed on the inner surface of the left/right sidewall plates and covers the inner part of the peak portion P1 on the curved left/right sidewall plates. When viewed from a cross section parallel to the front/rear sidewall plates, the angle θ is equal to or greater than 60° and less than 180°, wherein the angle θ is formed by the line L3, which connects the intersection C and one end (B21) of the light-shielding layer, and the line L4, which connects the intersection C and the other end (B22) of the light-shielding layer, wherein the intersection C is made by the line L1, which is in the middle of the top/bottom wall plates, and the line L2 which connects the boundaries between the top/down wall plates and the left/right sidewall plates. Or, the angle θ, which is formed by the line L3 and the line L4, is less than 180° and the ultraviolet transmittance of the light-shielding layer is equal to or greater than 16% and equal to or less than 86%. |
