The present invention related to a device for positioning a medium which is conveyed to an image reading position at an appropriate point. The device for positioning a medium at an appropriate point comprises: a contact surface (120F) which the surface of a medium touches; a reading unit such as a CCD image sensor for reading the image of the surface of the medium which comes into contact with the contact surface (120F); a registration roll (113) for conveying the medium to a reading point (Rp) at which the image is read by the reading unit; and a second guidance member (117) which is located at the upper path, through which the medium is conveyed by the registration roll (113), than the reading point (Rp) and includes two leg units (1171) which come into contact with the contact surface (120F) at both sides of the path. The second guidance member (1171) is placed a given distance apart from the contact surface (120F) by positioning each leg unit (1171) on the contact surface (170F). The second guidance member whose position is determined guides the medium to the reading point (Rp) in order not to separate the medium from the contact surface (120F).
