An electric shower has an instantaneous electric water heater 2 with a diverter valve 8 arranged to direct water from a heater tank to a selected one of two spray fittings 4, 6. The diverter valve 8 is configured to maintain water flow substantially constant when the diverter valve is operated to switch between the spray fittings 4, 6 such that the outlet water temperature is unaffected. One of the spray fittings 4 may comprise a handset 4 that can be detachably located in a parked position on casing 16 of the water heater 2 by a magnetic attraction force. <Figure 1>
