[Class 48] Fishing-reel tongues g are engaged by rod sockets c, one of which is fixed in predetermined position and the other being threaded and engaged by a threaded ring h coacting with an adjustable abutment so as to produce longitudinal movement of the socket. The plain socket is secured either against a split ring housed in one of a series of grooves in the rod, or by a screw engaging one of a series of holes or an adjustable nut. A spring ring with peg may also be used. The threaded ring h may engage a split ring i, Fig. 1, housed in a groove c, or may engage a pawl p, Fig. 4, engaging notches k in a metal strip l. The nose of the pawl is upturned so as to be rocked by the ring h to release the pawl from the notches k. The abutment may consist of a piece w, Fig. 11, with segmental head x projections y permitting raising the head x and sliding the piece w without separation from the strip l.
