The method involves providing (S1) configuration data of free-field photovoltaic power plant and power plant components. The configuration parameter which specifies configuration rules for free-field photovoltaic power plant is provided. The selection and localization of required power plant components for layout of free-field photovoltaic power plant is initialized and optimized (S2) based on the provided configuration data and concretized configuration rules. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) device for creating system layout of free-field photovoltaic power plant; and (2) computer program for creating system layout of free-field photovoltaic power plant.
