The method involves selecting a color field (6) of print image (10) whose color value is to be measured. A measuring unit (2) is positioned over selected color field. The color field is illuminated by an illumination device. The illuminated color field is measured by a color measuring sensor, and an image of color field is captured by an image pickup device (2.2). The homogeneity of color field is determined based on captured image (8). The measurement result is discarded if captured image is not homogeneous, and the measurement result is released if captured image is homogeneous. An independent claim is included for color measurement device for measuring a color field in image imprinted on a web-like material.
