Disclosed are a user authentication system connected to at least one terminal by cables or a wireless network and a user authentication method using the same. If the terminal is connected and the terminal requests a registration or a modification of an additional authentication information, an information providing server provides a screen capable of registering and modifying the additional authentication information and receives the additional authentication information besides an ID and a password uploaded by being selected by a user from the terminal, and stores the additional authentication information in an authentication information storage unit. If storage of the additional authentication information is completed, the information providing server transmits the completed registration or modification of the additional authentication information to the terminal. By making a user pass a user identification confirmation procedure by comparing with the registered additional authentication information when the user selectively registers the additional authentication information and accesses a business system, the user authentication system is easily applied to an internal business system and enables a powerful user authentication.
