The present invention relates to a motor protection device using insulation resistance measurement and a method thereof capable of determining the damage status of a motor caused by a fire by measuring the insulation resistance of the motor in operation while AC power is applied to the motor. The motor protection device using insulation resistance measurement according to one embodiment of the present invention is a device of protecting a motor operated by AC power and comprises a motor; a line which applies an AC voltage to the motor; and a sensing unit which detects a DC voltage and a DC current flowing through the line by applying the DC voltage between the motor and the ground through the line and senses the damage status of the motor caused by a fire by comparing an insulation resistance value of the motor calculated by using the detected DC voltage and DC current to a set value set by an operator. |
