The present invention relates to a method for operating a shaft furnace. The method for operating the shaft furnace includes steps for converting heat flow ratio expression, which is expressed with a ratio of thermal capacity of an object and the thermal capacity of gas, into the heat flow ratio expression formed with elements of wind supply conditions; deducting the wind supply condition in a management range of the heat flow ratio for controlling a position of a heat conservation band by applying the converted heat flow ratio expression; and performing a shaft furnace work with the deducted wind supply conditions. The present invention enables the shaft furnace work to be efficiently performed as the wind supply condition in the management rate of the heat flow ratio can be controlled.
