The present invention relates to a video display apparatus and a method for operating the same. The video display apparatus according to the embodiment of the present invention comprises: a display for displaying multi-view videos; a lens unit which is disposed in the front of the display and separates the multi-view videos in each direction; and a control unit which performs a control operation, in a mixed video display mode in which 2D videos and 3D videos are displayed together, to display 2D videos based on the location information of a first viewer if a 2D video display mode is set to the first viewer, and performs a control operation to display 3D videos based on the location information of a second viewer if a 3D video display mode is set to the second viewer. As a result, user convenience is improved while displaying auto-stereoscopic videos.
