Disclosed is an automatic object detection device and method of an image photographed by a camera having a multiple color filter aperture. A background generation unit generates a background image frame by detecting movement from a current image frame of a plurality of temporally continuous image frames which are photographed by the camera having different color filters mounted on a plurality of openings formed in the aperture thereof. An object detection unit detects an object area based on the difference between each of color channels of current image frame and each of color channels of background image frame. According to the present invention, the object can be automatically detected by the background image frame which is repetitively renewed, and the information of object can be exactly estimated by reflecting characteristics of MCA camera to separately detect the object for each color channel.
