PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus, in which the structure of a tray used when feeding and discharging documents is simplified more than a conventional one, and whose thickness is easily reduced.SOLUTION: A multifunction machine 1 includes a scanner unit 3 on the top part thereof, and the scanner unit 3 includes an ADF part 6 to transport a document to be read. A sub tray 11 that is openable and closable is provided in the ADF part 6. When transporting the document, the sub tray 11 is opened, and the document to be transported is fed into a space below partition plates 17a. At this time, the rear surface 11b of the sub tray 11 and a main tray 15 are used as a feed tray. The document that has been transported is discharged onto the top surface of the partition plates 17a and is further transported onto the rear surface 11b of the sub tray 11. At this time, the rear surface 11b of the sub tray 11 and the top surfaces of the partition plates 17a are used as a discharge tray. |
