摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method which suppresses application marks of a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition, uneven spreading of the composition, and the occurrence of voids.SOLUTION: The manufacturing method includes a preparation step of preparing two alignment-treated substrates, a liquid crystal application step of continuously linearly applying a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition on one alignment-treated substrate at a normal temperature, an assembling step of laminating the two alignment-treated substrates to assemble a liquid crystal cell, a heating step of heating the liquid crystal cell, and a cooling step of cooling the liquid crystal cell. The ferroelectric liquid crystal composition has a viscosity of 0.01 to 0.05 Pa s in a temperature range where the composition is in an isotropic phase. In the liquid crystal application step, a distance between an end part of a liquid crystal sealing area in which the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition is to be sealed and a start point of application of the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition and a distance between the end part of a liquid crystal sealing area and an end point of application of the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition are 20 mm or less.
