The method involves measuring a compressed fresh air (8) in an internal combustion engine (2) by using reference sensors (26, 36), which provide a reference signal (24) based on the fresh air. The fresh air is measured by using a boost pressure sensor (18) and an air mass sensor installed in the engine, where the sensor provides an output signal based on the fresh air. A characteristic curve (46) of the sensors is adjusted corresponding to a characteristic point of the measured fresh air until the output signal corresponds to the reference signal.
