The device has a clutch release sleeve (3.1) for operating a clutch that comprises diaphragm spring tongues (4). A position element adjusts a pedal stopper (5) depending on a change of position of the spring tongues such that a pedal travel is reduced. A sensor (6) is assigned to the clutch release sleeve and detects a position of the clutch release sleeve and the position of the spring tongues. The sensor stands in connection with a controller (7) i.e. CPU, which outputs a signal for operation of the position element that is formed in form of an adjustable nut (10).
