The present invention relates to an apparatus for refining molten metal, and more particularly, to an apparatus for refining molten metal and to a refining method using same, capable of enabling the falling molten metal to collide against a refractory pad so as to form the molten metal into liquid droplets and inducing a quick refining reaction during the following free-falling process and process of passing through a slag layer of the molten metal formed into a liquid droplet. For the continuous casting of steel or metal, the present invention provides an apparatus for refining molten metal, comprising: container body, the atmosphere of which is adjustable, for receiving molten metal from a ladle and supplying the received molten metal to a mold; a nozzle for feeding the molten metal from the ladle into the container body; a pole and a pad for forming the molten metal fed from the nozzle into liquid droplets or film; and a slag layer for removing inclusions from the molten metal formed into liquid droplets or film.
