An exhaust gas purification system of a direct-injection engine and a control method thereof are provided to improve efficiency of a powertrain system. An exhaust gas purification system comprises a NSC(10), a TWC(Three Way Catalyst)(20) positioned in the NSC backend, a fuel reformer(50) which the fuel tank(30) is connected the exhaust gas purification system, a switch valve(60) located in the fuel reformer backend, NSC and TWC upper end, and a heat exchanger(70) positioned at NSC and fuel reformer upper end.
