PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound and a composition which are alternative compound and composition useful for scavenging oxygen, in particular those not necessarily requiring activation for scavenging oxygen after forming a packaging material.SOLUTION: A polymeric composition includes a hydrogenated anthraquinone derivative and/or enol/enolate tautomer or substituted derivative thereof. Further, a method for scavenging oxygen and preventing oxygen from migrating into a package is provided.
