PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a woody composite material, configured to obtain a lightweight and high-strength woody composite material having a reduced expansion coefficient due to water absorption, and excellent dimensional stability, and the woody composite material manufactured by using the method of manufacturing the woody composite material.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a woody composite material includes: a chemical treatment step of obtaining chemically treated strands by impregnating woody strands with a low-molecular phenolic substance that is cured and resinified by heating; a binder adhesion step of adhering a binder to the chemically treated strands; a laminated mat formation step of forming a laminated mat by substantially aligning, orienting and laminating the chemically treated strands with the binder adhered thereon in the length direction; and a hot-press molding step of hot-press molding the laminated mat. In the woody strands to be used in the chemical treatment step, woody strands having 0.1-1.0 mm of thickness, 20 mm or more of length in the fiber direction, 100-500 of average length/thickness, 5-30 of average length/width, and the length in the fiber direction in a range of the average length±20% occupy 70% or more of total woody strands. In the method of manufacturing the woody composite material, in the laminated mat formation step, the chemically treated strands with the binder adhered thereto are oriented at an average angle of 24° or less with respect to the longitudinal direction. |
