PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce technology which can prevent a motion which is not a free falling motion from being erroneously determined to be free fall.SOLUTION: An image pickup device comprises: detection means for detecting acceleration in three axial directions acting on the device; arithmetic means for calculating acceleration information associated with the device from the output value of the detection means; and determination means for determining the free falling state of the device from the acceleration information calculated by the arithmetic means. When a state of the device where the acceleration information is equal to or less than a first designated value continues longer than a first time threshold, the determination means determines that the state is a free falling state. If a fluctuation of the acceleration information exceeds a reference value before the acceleration information becomes equal to less than the first designated value, the first time threshold is altered to a longer time than that. Then, when a state of the device where the acceleration information is equal to or less than the first designated value continues longer than the altered time threshold, the state is determined to be a free falling state. |
