PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to the field of cancer therapy, particularly to enable regulation of telomere elongation in telomerase positive cells.SOLUTION: Induction of telomere shortening, G2 arrest and apoptosis in telomerase positive cancer cells using acyclic nucleoside analogs is disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for impairing or preventing a chance for tumorigenic telomerase positive cells to grow into a tumor and methods for promoting tumor regression (decrease in size of an established tumor) using acyclic nucleoside analogs. |
