The compressor has a compression chamber equipped with an impeller (14) rotatably mounted on a drive shaft (10). The drive shaft is sealed by the spaced-apart sealing elements (36A,36B), and a leakage space (38) is formed between the spaced-apart sealing elements. A leakage line (44) with a conduit end (42) is connected with the leakage space, for flow of the leakage fluid from the leakage space. An independent claim is included for method for pumping gaseous fluid using the side-channel compressor.
