PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition capable of obtaining a superior aldose reductase inhibition activator, derived from natural edible plants, and contained in a safe food composition or a pharmaceutical composition allowing a long term intake without side effects.SOLUTION: The invention provides: (1) an aldose reductase inhibition activator having an extract of a cherry as an active ingredient; (2) the aldose reductase inhibition activator described in (1) wherein the cherry is a cherry blossom; (3) the aldose reductase inhibitor described in (1) or (2) wherein the cherry is a double cherry blossom; (4) the aldose reductase inhibition activator described in (2) or (3) wherein the extract of the cherry is obtained by extracting the cherry blossom with aqueous ethanol at an ethanol concentration of 10-90% (wt/wt); and (5) a diabetes preventive composition containing any one of the aldose reductase inhibition activators described in (1)-(4).
