PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum foil capable of yielding high capacitance through electrolytic etching. SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy foil for an electrolytic capacitor is characterized by an Al content of ≥99.98% in a main body of the foil and by a Sr content of from 0.001 to less than 0.05 ppm, a Pb content of 10-500 ppm, a Sn content of 1-500 ppm and a Sn/Pb content ratio of 0.3-10 at the area within a depth of 0.1 μm from the surface of the foil.
