492,708. Moulding laminated fibrous material. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27277. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1936. [Class 87 (ii)] In a process for moulding articles by first forming laminated fibrous material to approximately the desired shape on an auxiliary mould, and then subjecting the preliminary moulding to heat and pressure between dies, the auxiliary mould is provided with anchoring devices for the laminated material at sharp edges or rounded parts. The fibrous material may be paper, fabric, &c. impregnated with artificial resin. The aluminium auxiliary mould 1 is provided at its rounded parts with insertions 3 of rubber or rubberized fabric. The insertions 3 are retained on the mould by pins 5, similar to press buttons, and are provided with anchoring pins 4, similar to drawing pins. The lower edge of the mould 1 is surrounded by a steel sheet 10. The strips 11 of laminated material are coated with an artificial resin adhesive and are pressed on to the mould by a tool 12. The whole is then placed in the die 13 of a hydraulic press and the mould 1 is removed leaving the insertions 3 on the shaped body 2. The insertions are then removed and the body 2 is pressed under a pressure of 300-400 kg, /cm<2>. for about 10 minutes. |
