[Class 53] [Also in Groups IX, VIII, and XXII] A dry cell dolly is provided with a wrapping consisting of a thread which is wound longitudinally of the dolly and over the ends and also round the dolly at right-angles to the axis. Ridges 51, 57 for centring the dolly are formed by superposing several turns of the winding at the same place on the dolly. The thread is wound on the dolly in a machine in which the dolly is held in a rotating chuck. The thread is passed through a bath of insulating-material before being wound on the dolly, and the ridges 51, 57 are shaped by a template 55. The bottom of the dolly is covered with insulating- material which is smoothed by a plate 58. Figs. 8 and 9 show devices for covering the bottom of the dolly with insulating-material. In Fig. 8, the dolly 1 held in a rotating chuck 3 is brought into contact with a roller 44 rotating in a bath of insulating-material, while in Fig. 9 the rotating dolly is dipped in the bath. |
