A wave energy converter has a first and second body (10, 12), the first body (10) floating in the water, the second body (12) being arranged to be able to move relative to the first body (10), for example within the first body. The second body (12) may be resiliently coupled to the first body (10). During operation a brake (22) is put on upward movement of the first body (10) while a level of the water rises relative to the first body (10) during passage of a wave. As a result the first and second body may come to a standstill. After the wave level has risen, the braking (22)is released, which sets the first body (10) into a sudden motion that launches the second body (12) into movement relative to first body (10). Energy is then collected form the relative movement between the first and second bodies.
|
