In order to provide an image processing device capable of accurately detecting a pupil region, this image processing device (6) for identifying the characteristics of an eye from an image of a human face is provided with: a first differentiation unit (31) for differentiating, in the horizontal direction of the eye, an eye region containing an eye in the image of a face, and obtaining an intensity gradient thereof; a ternarization unit (32) for subjecting the eye region to ternarization of the intensity gradient, and extracting, as edge points, a first edge point corresponding to the boundary where the left side is brighter than the right side, and a second edge point corresponding to the boundary where the left side is darker than the right side; a first voting unit (33) for subjecting each edge point to voting by using a Hough transform and changing the weight of the vote in relation to an ellipse according to whether the edge point being processed is a first or second edge point, and according to the positional relationship between the edge point and the ellipse being subjected to voting; and a pupil outline identification unit (34) for identifying the ellipse indicating the outline of the pupil, on the basis of the voting result from the first voting unit (33). |
