In the production of artificial stone blocks, a mix comprising at least 50 per cent (dry weight) of highly porous foam slag and a hydraulic matrix consisting of slate ash or slate-lime, or sand and lime, is formed into blocks and then subjected to a steam hardening treatment. Granulated blast-furnace slag may be added to the mix.
