609,793. Adjustable-throw crank-shafts. GROUPEMENT FRANCAIS POUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT DES RECHERCHES. AERONAUTIQUES. March 22, 1946, No. 8956. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1941. [Class 80 (ii) and 80 (iii]] An adjustable-throw crank-shaft comprises externally splined crank-pin parts 3, 3a and an internally splined sleeve 5 mounted thereon in a variety of angular positions for varying the effective crank-throw. The crank-pin halves 3, 3a are permanently secured to or integral with the crank-cheeks 2, 2a. One journal bearing 8 is mounted in a removable block 9 so that the crank-shaft part 2a and cheek 1a can be readily passed through the crank-case 11 on removal of the block 9 to permit throw adjustment. Holes 12 in the member 5 balance the assembly. The periphery of sleeve 5 may be smooth to accommodate a one-piece connecting rod with a cylindrical bearing surface or it may have circumferential channels 13 to accommodate rows of roller bearings. Lubricating oil is led through a bore in the crank-pin and flows through ducts 15 to the periphery of the sleeve 5.
|
