[Classes 66 and 125 (i)] Transport bottles or other breakable glass &c. articles for conveying chemicals &c. are provided with protective coverings by applying to the outer surface b a binding-medium such as cold glue, followed immediately by a layer of coarse sawdust c, granular cork, peat dust or like material, and, after this has dried, more cold glue and a layer of fine sawdust d or two layers of 2 millimetre granular cork, which is allowed to dry where upon a pulp e made of cold glue and wood dust is applied. When solidified, the covering is coated with a water impervious coat f, e.g. by immersion in a bath of bitumen or asphalt, followed by a coat of metal, chlorinated caoutchouc or a thin coat of xylolith. The layers are applied so as to be thickest at the bottom, which may be reinforced by a plain or profiled plate made of composition wood fibre. In the case of a small bottle, a handle h is secured to the neck by a clamp g; the handle of a big bottle has, in addition, supporting-limbs which extend to the bottom of the bottle and are embedded in the covering.</p> |
