[Class 6 (ii)] Apparatus for growing plants from seed or seedlings without the use of soil consists of a chamber containing supports for trays on which the seeds are placed, the supports being placed one above another and inclined in opposite directions. Liquid may be fed to the top tray from which it runs down all the trays in succession. Fig. 1 shows a chamber in the form of a hut or greenhouse fitted with supports for trays 1 to which water may be fed from a tank 4. As the plants grow the trays may be moved - downwards along the supports to provide room for the increased height of the plants. The trays may consist of corrugated metal synthetic resin or other material. Wire baskets 6 which may be placed in a tank of water may be provided for soaking seeds before they are placed on the trays. The chamber may be provided with a hopper for introducing seeds from the outside and with windows 7 fitted with shutters. |
