PURPOSE: A fat amount measurement apparatus using image processing of medical images and a method thereof are provided to increase accuracy of the measurement, by correcting closed loop trace error. CONSTITUTION: At least one slice image is selected (S210). An external closed loop trace is generated from the selected slice image (S214). An internal closed loop trace is generated by using brightness value of the fat (S216). The internal closed loop trace classifies visceral fat and subcutaneous fat. The external closed loop trace and the internal closed loop trace are displayed in the selected slice image.
