PURPOSE: A refrigerator and an operating method thereof are provided to conveniently thaw objects among stored goods of a freezing chamber, to minimize the thawing time and power consumption, and to minimize the nutritional loss of the objects. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a main body, a cooling device, a thawing module, an input unit, and a control unit. A freezing chamber is formed in the main body. The cooling device cools the freezing chamber. The thawing module is arranged in the freezing chamber and a thawing compartment divided with the freezing chamber is formed. The thawing module includes a thawing heater and a thawing fan. The input unit inputs a thawing command. The control unit turns on the thawing heater and the thawing fan when the thawing command is inputted by the input unit and controls the thawing heater and the thawing fan in order for a temperature of the thawing compartment to maintain a predetermined temperature when the temperature of the thawing compartment reach a freezing temperature in which is predetermined to be close at 0°C among the predetermined temperature of the freezing chamber or the temperature of 0°C.
