The invention relates to a unit for the treatment of an object, for example a polymer object for a motor vehicle headlight. The unit comprises: a vacuum chamber (12) intended to house the object (22); means (24) for placing the chamber (12) under vacuum; and ion bombardment means (44) for treating the object (22); said means (44) comprising an ion generator (46) and at least one ion applicator (48) for emitting an ion beam. The unit also includes a first airlock (36), means (40) for establishing selective communication between the vacuum chamber (12) and the first airlock (36), and means (24) for placing the airlock (36) under vacuum. The ion bombardment means (44) are arranged outside the vacuum chamber (12). The ion applicator (48) is housed inside the first airlock (36).
