PURPOSE: A high voltage DC power transmission system and a bridge protecting method thereof improve the stability of the system by detecting currents flowing through a secondary side Y-bridge and delta-bridge of a transformer and performing a protection operation for overcurrent. CONSTITUTION: A transformer (10) converts input AC power into AC power for transmission. A power converter (20) converts the AC power for transmission into DC power or converts the DC power into the AC power for transmission. A DC cable (30) transmits the DC power. A control unit (40) determines the abnormality of a secondary side line of the transformer and protects a bridge. A first current detection unit (51) detects a first current flowing through a secondary side Y-bridge of the transformer.
